What is Google Crowdsource?

Google Crowdsource is a non-code community from Google, to improve the Machine and diversify the AI through individual contributions. We use the Crowdsource app to do the contributions of different tasks such as translation, image label verifications, etc.
In this post, we will discuss the share your script campaign by Google.

What is Share your script Campaign V 2.0?
Share your script is a campaign to collect diverse handwriting from contributors to help train Google’s Machine Learning. This will cover 15 languages in total whereas the previous pilot shares your script campaign covered 8 languages only: Hindi, African French, Amharic, Bengali, Gujarati, Indonesian, Japanese, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Portuguese, Spanish, Tamil, Telegu, Urdu.
In this campaign, we aren’t focusing on the number of contributions as such; we are looking for different types of handwritten text (as compared to many images of the same style).
It would be great if you could encourage community members (or even your friends and family) to contribute after they fill this form and by using correct labels while uploading through image capture in the app. More unique participants will help us in getting diverse handwriting styles, which will improve optical character recognition (OCR) models that power products like Google Lens.
Why do such Campaigns?
OCR is a technology where electronically converts the text into machine-encoded text and it quite works fine in English, but what about your native language? Even if it works how much accuracy of conversion you are getting now?
For OCR Model to recognise hand writtern text, they need to identify diverse scripts and writing style. So this campaign will be helpful to achieve through crwodsourcing as the name suggests. 1.Translating restaurant menu, sign boards when you visit new country. 2.Scanning and translating business cards 3.Reading text or separate from the docs and pdf. 4.Helping users with Low literacy to understand. 5.Enabling accesbillity for people who are blind.
How to do this campaign?
1) Download Google Crowdsource app. 1.1) Register Here: https://bit.ly/38CSpSV 1.2) While filling the form in other section you can mention how you got this information. eg: Influencer names or you can mention my name "Sanjay".
2) Write in your handwriting in 3 types of text (Sample pictures below) any one of the following at a time, for example, write a to-do list, that will become under category b which is list
a) “passage”
b) “list”
c) “notes”
3) Take a photo of the handwritten script, and upload using Image capture, and label as below based on the types of text. The actual text content is not needed to be labeled. Label according to what is required (Refer the below for example)
If you are contributing in Malayalam language it would be like a) script, malayalam, notes b) script, malayalam, list c) script, malayalam, passage
a) 手稿,書寫,字跡, 中文, 文章段落,
b) 手稿,書寫,字跡, 中文, 清單,名單,
c) 手稿,書寫,字跡, 中文, 筆記,
4) Keep contributing as much as you can, and get your friends to do it also. Must sign up for the campaign, if not, data may not count.
The main idea of this campaign is get more diverse handwriting which helps google eventually read and filter out Malayalam from any handwriting.If you would like to disable Open source get the slider from the left side and click on settings and disable the toggle button.
What is open source?
All the images you uploaded will be used to prepare the dataset and eventually sent to the machine learning process, Nowhere open source come into the picture where whatever you are uploading that will be accessible publicly. 3rd party can use your source to train their data to build next-generation applications.
